City Guide: Men's Shopping in the Hi-Dez
Our good friend Anthony visited the desert recently, and we sent him out shopping to find the best menswear stores in the high desert. Anthony lives in Brooklyn and is the VP of Men’s Merchandising at J.Crew - translation, he literally shops for a living. Read on for his Men’s Shopping guide of Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms.
Yucca Valley

Not only can you get your boots resoled and leather goods repaired at Valley Shoe, this is THE place in the high desert for vintage cowboy boots. Their generous selection changes monthly. All boots are inspected, repaired and restored as needed in house. Don’t know how to choose your perfect fit? The owners spend time with you to fit you properly and offer boot education so you understand the value of investing in a good fitting pair of boots.

The owner Jojo comes from denim legacy, his dad founded JNCO jeans (yes those mega wide legs jeans that all the skater kids wore in the 90s). The Dusty Blue is a tiny shop tucked behind other shops in the heart of Old Town Yucca Valley. Packed from floor to ceiling with vintage denim, Jojo also does repairs, modifications and indigo dying onsite.

All Roads
Men’s tees, socks and accessories, plus artisan made home goods and genderless body care. The bath and body products are made in house and are inspired by desert botanicals.

Funky might be the longest standing vintage store in the hi-des. This huge shop has something for everyone and is located right in the heart of Old Town Yucca Valley.
Tucked behind the world famous vintage shop The End, is a secret little men's only vintage shop. Follow the snake walkway painted on the concrete to enter.
Pioneertown

Vintage western, workwear, tees, truckers and the only place in the high des to buy brand new cowboy boots like Dan Post, Laredo, Dingo, Justin, and Tony Lama brands. You can also find new pieces from Wrangler, Bandit Brand, and Rockmount Ranch.
Joshua Tree
Curated vintage by store owners who worked in corporate menswear for years. Denim and workwear heavy. They also have a really great backyard space for hanging out. Grab some food in downtown Joshua Tree enjoy it in the backyard at Sun of the Desert.
If you are looking for the perfect Joshua Tree souvenir t-shirt, you will find it at The Station! Located in a former gas station, The Station has the best gifts and tees to bring remind you of your desert trip.
Twentynine Palms
The flagship Twentynine Palms location has more vintage Levi’s and expanded selection of goods. Check their instagram for regular special events.
Feels like both a boutique and a cool hidden gallery. Art and design from local creatives fill this shop. The owners are artists themselves. Come in for unique desert design, handmade knives, jewelry, apparel and gifts.

Former New Yorker, and owner Liz proudly boasts that Hi Desert Times is literally the only newsstand in the hi-dez. She has brought the vibes of a special little magazine shop that you might stumble into in a boisterous city to this rural high desert community. Who doesn’t love to get lost finding inspiration in the pages of art, design, literature or foreign mags. Print is not dead!
A great record shop that also has a tiny skate shop in the back, the only skate shop in the hi des!
